What is FaceOff?

FaceOff is a social gaming platform that allows you to challenge your friends using real odds on actual sporting events with a chance to win real prizes.

Is It Legal?

FaceOff does not offer sports betting or gambling, and it is not a pay for play fantasy game. Instead, FaceOff allows you to make challenges to other players on the outcomes of specific events or activities (sports related or not).

Challenges are made by staking virtual “FaceOff Chips.” You receive a certain number of FaceOff Chips for free when you register for an account. You can earn more FaceOff Chips by winning challenges against other players.

While there are various other ways to earn FaceOff Chips, you can always buy more using real money in order to play in more contests. But you cannot sell, redeem or trade FaceOff Chips for any real money or anything with real world value.

As a result, FaceOff does not provide illegal sports betting or gambling – because the FaceOff Chips you receive from a successful challenge are only for play on the site and do not have any real world value. FaceOff does give successful players an opportunity to win prizes with real world value, but only through skill based contests.

In order to be eligible to participate in a skill based contest offered on FaceOff, you must redeem your FaceOff Chips into points. Based on your success in the skill based game, you will receive the value of the prize based upon your achievement. Keep in mind you cannot use purchased FaceOff Chips to enter a skill based contest, only chips that are earned through things such as challenges.

The prize awarded in the skill based game is based only on your successful completion of the contest and not based upon the outcome of any sporting event or activity and not based on an element of chance. This results in FaceOff’s prize awarding contests being neither sports betting or gambling

While we believe the games offered on FaceOff are legal everywhere, we have chosen to exclude residents in the states of Arkansas, Arizona, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Nevada, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont and Washington in the skill based contests. That is to avoid possible questions in those jurisdictions about using the skill based contests to award prizes with real world value.
